Does NOT Qualify for Concealed Carry. This is a two-hour introductory course with range shooting after the course. This course covers minimal basic handgun safety rules based on the NRA New Shooter Course. Handgun safety is demonstrated with unloaded handguns. Other topics include types of firearms and their parts, magazine, ammunition, and gun sights.
Also covered is introduction to the shooting range - what to expect and what you need.
Firearm is provided with up to 50 rounds with Smith and Wesson M&P 22.
This course is an introductory course only, intended to get the student past the “jitters” that many experience when handling guns and going to a shooting range for the first time. This course is intended for someone that owns a handgun or is considering purchasing a handgun and have not yet decided on the commitment they are willing to make, such as qualifying for a concealed carry permit. Each student must acknowledge and sign a liability waiver for the New Shooter Course before the class begins. In addition, you will need a driver’s license and will have to sign a gun range liability waiver before shooting. Ear and eye protection will be provided by the range or if you prefer, you may bring your own.
Qualifies for Concealed Carry. This is about a four-hour basic handgun course with range shooting (about 30 minutes) after the course. This course covers extensive handgun safety rules that every gun owner needs to know to own, store, maintain and shoot a handgun safely. This course covers many of the subjects covered in the New Shooter Course, but in substantially more detail with “hands on” gun experience in the classroom.You will learn how to stand when firing, and how to hold a semi-automatic and revolver. Understanding the operating parts of a handgun and how a handgun works is critical to safe handling, storage, transporting, loading and unloading, as well as shooting.
A significant part of the course covers the gun owners’ responsibilities and liabilities when those responsibilities are not met. This is not a course on gun law, but some basics are covered, including resources to gather additional information, such as gun laws in states in which you may travel. A Concealed Carry Permit or License is actually called a Concealed Carry Weapon or Firearm License. To learn more, you should check out the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services" FDACS". .In order to qualify, you must successfully complete a Basic Handgun Course from an NRA Firearms Instructor .
While the requirements do change from time to time, as of 2020, you will be required to have fingerprints, a passport photo and prepare an application .
